Summary
Bronze medallion, Prince Henry Benedict Stuart, Cardinal York (1725–1807) by Fillippo Cropanese, 1766, of Henry Cardinal York, made on the death of Henry's father, Prince James; right profile. In red leather case with NT 998340 (reverse by Hamerani). This is the obverse of a bronze medal of Prince Henry, Cardinal York, the younger brother of Prince Charles Edward Stewart. The medal was issued in 1788 to assert Henry's right to the throne after Charles's death. The obverse bears a bust of Henry. Although he called himself 'Henry IX', Henry made no attempt to claim the crown, recognising that hopes of a Stewart restoration had finally faded.
