The pistols are stamped with Irish registration numbers R-485, indicating that they were registered in Roscommon. All firearms, regardless of their age, were required to be registered under the penalty of a large fine, imprisonment, or both. Iron barrel, formed in two stages, octagonal to round. Silver spider foresight, the engraved barrel tang with raised V rear sight. Converted to the percussion system c1840 installing a false breech with a platinum safety vent. Barrel length 25.5cm. Calibre 16mm. Walnut full-stock with rococo shell carving behind the barrel tang, the butt of swollen form with a silver cap. Engraved and chiselled silver furniture comprising; buttcap with long side spurs, the pommel with military trophies and a grotesque mask; trigger guard, its finial in the form of a herm figure and vase of flowers; pierced sideplate decorated with military trophies, escutcheon and 2 ramrod pipes. The silver furniture stamped with Birmingham hallmarks, the date letter G (1779) and makers mark CF (Charles Freeth - Great Charles Street, Birmingham). Scroll form trigger.
