Summary
Victorian mantel clock signed ‘James Whitelaw. Edinburgh’ on the dial, in cushioned rectangular case of black slate and veined green marble, on plinth base, with loose molded bird on top. The circular gilt dial has inked Roman numerals and an engraved dial centre, Brocot regulation above the 12 o’clock position, and hand setting below the 6 o’clock position. The back of the dial plate is stamped ‘J.B. DELETTREZ 62. RUE CHARLOT’, and with the serial number 22737. The backplate of the clock and the pendulum bob are stamped with the same serial number. The two-train French drum movement has rack striking on a bell and steel-pallet Brocot escapement.
