Summary
Set of multi-coloured tiddlywinks counters contained in a stained rectangular box with sliding lid and two internal compartments.
Full description
The set is composed of 20 purple winks, 19 cream ones and 1 squidger, 17 bright yellow winks and 1 squidger, 2 red winks, 1 dark blue and 1 light blue made of cardboard. Tiddlywinks is a game played on a flat felt mat with sets of small discs called "winks", a pot, which is the target, and a collection of squidgers, which are also discs. Players use a "squidger" to shoot a wink into flight by flicking the squidger across the top of a wink and then over its edge, thereby propelling it into the air.
Provenance
Purchased with the family collection of Abbey contents in situ from Mrs Petronella Burnett-Brown December 2009
