Summary
An early 19th century mahogany cased banjo barometer having inlaid fire and rosette motifs with broken pediment design at the top. Main circular dial calibrated for pressure in inches of mercury and an arched red alcohol Fahrenheit thermometer in the neck above. The dial is inscribed "J Pastorelli 281 High Holbn London", the cover glass has several radial cracks. The mercury tube is accessed via a hinged wooden door on the back of the barometer which is held shut by two brass latches.

Purchased by the National Trust with the family collection of Lacock Abbey contents in situ from Mrs. Petronella Burnett-Brown in December 2009.
