Summary
A needlework and stained oak X frame stool, English, circa 1830. The needlework seat worked with a geometric design above a carved base with raised anthemions to the corners, scroll carved apron and scale carved legs, scrolled feet. Hand written paper label to the underside 'The work of Laura Mundy - second daughter of Francis Mundy of Markeaton, (Derbyshire) MP - about 1833 or 40'.
Full description
Francis Mundy (1771-1837) was a landowner, member of parliament for Derbyshire and a High Sheriff of Derbyshire. His second daughter, Laura, died on 1 September 1842 in London. His youngest, Constance, married William Henry Fox Talbot in 1832. (James Weedon, August 2019)
Provenance
Owned by William Henry Fox Talbot and purchased by the National Trust with the family collection of Lacock Abbey contents in situ from Mrs. Petronella Burnett-Brown in December 2009.
