Summary
A satinwood secretaire bookcase, English, circa 1790. Crossbanded throughout in purpleheart, the upper section with arched cornice surmounted by urn finials painted with flowers and spiral ribbon detail and above a pair of glazed doors, each with seven panes, the lower section with hinge-down secretaire drawer enclosing a fitted interior of seven pigeonholes and seven drawers exquisitely painted with berried sprigs, vine and drapes, the writing surface leather-lined and with a lock stamped TAYLORS IMPROVED LEVER LOCK 561, with a further three graduated long drawers, all with bun handles and ivory escutcheons, on swept bracket feet.
