Summary
A dining chair, one of a set of six mahogany dining chairs, English, circa 1770. Comprising two armchairs and four standard chairs. The set upholstered in two different types of fabric: NT 960220.1.1 & 960220.1.2 (both standard chairs) upholstered in pale green; NT 960220.2.1 & NT 960220.2.2 (both open armchairs) and NT 960220.3.1 & 960220.3.2 (both standard chairs) upholstered in red velvet. This standard chair with a moulded frame and shield-shaped back with a vase-shaped pierced splat, carved with husks and garlands and foliate motifs. With a stuff-over seat upholstered in red velvet with a pattern of flowers and raised on tapering moulded front supports carved with bellflowers and outswept rear supports, joined by a mid-, a rear and side stretchers.
