Summary
A walnut veneered mule chest, English, circa 1730 - 1750. With a crossbanded caddy top fitted with a frontal brass ring handle, a pair of cockbeaded drawers below. Raised on later mahogany bracket feet. This is a high quality piece of furniture, possibly surviving from Nostell Priory's first building from 1735. Its brass furniture compares to that on a suite of high quality walnut furniture of the same period at Dunham Massey [NT 931148 - a chest & NT 930648 - a close stool].
Provenance
Purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010.
