Summary
An oak and ash book or napkin press, English, late 17th century. The press frame with moulded cornice, single helix screw and decorative corbels, on a table stand with frieze drawer and four knopped block and baluster-turned legs joined by an 'H'-shaped stretcher and on pear feet.
Provenance
Date of acquisition not recorded, but possibly the 'Napkin Press' listed in the Butler's Pantry in the 1818 inventory. Thence by descent, and purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2008.
