Summary
One of a pair of 'famille rose' painted fish bowls, porcelain, made in China at Jingdezhen and painted in Guangzhou (Canton); Qianlong period, circa 1760-75: adapted as a wine cistern when displayed on a George III giltwood stand, originally parcel gilt and green japanned, by Thomas Chippendale, circa 1771-85 (959729). (Ferguson 2014) hippendale’s workshop supplied another green and gold stand for a black ground famille rose enameled porcelain cistern, c. 1760, for Edwin Lascelles of Harewood House, West Yorkshire, between 1769 and 1772.
