Summary
Envelope containing 17 press cuttings. Envelope inscribed in blue pencil 'Cheshire Home Coming' ('Provident Association' crossed through), inscribed above in hand of Lady Stamford "No use"; inscribed at foot of envelope "C.J. Vaughan" although the contents clearly post-date him. The cuttings concern the re-opening and re-occupation of Dunham Massey hall by the Earl and Countess of Stamford and their children, in August 1906, their welcome by the Dunham tenants, and the Court Leet of Altrincham. Several articles include photographs; one extended piece from The Manchester Guardian, August 8, 1906, reproduces a drawing made by F.W. Goolden at the rear of the Hall. Cuttings chiefly supplied by Romeike & Curtice. Formerly Family Flat (DUN/F/736), box 4/4
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
