Summary
A typescript copy letter to "Friends" from the Bishop of the Diocese of Gambia and the Rio Pongas; in two parts, Bathurst, Gambia, Mid Lent, 1943, and 16.V.43 ; with the accompanying envelope. The Bishop reports on the Mission's struggles in times of difficulty, including the imprisonment of priests and pressures to end their works. The envelope is addressed to the Countess of Stamford, Dunham Massey Hall, … ; annotated in her hand 'Gambia'; postmarked: Manchester 6.VII.43 with 2½d stamp. With paper-clip (rusted on). Annotaetd in pencil at top: "Please return to Lady Stamford."Among items from Family Flat in card box lid labelled "Programme blanks Dunham Massey."
