Summary
Autograph letter signed E.J. Lloyd (Edward Jeremiah Lloyd, barrister / magistrate, of Oldfield Hall) to the Earl of Stamford (i.e. George Harry Grey, 6th Earl of Stamford), March 30, 1842. Lloyd requests Lord Stamford's intercession on behalf of the Howarth family, after the death of the father, John Howart, in a coaching accident. He asks that Lord Stamford, as a subscriber to "Manchester Female Jubilee School" recommends the admission of Mary Howarth, the eldest daughter of the family, as a means to eventually procure a "respectable situation." The reverse of the letter is inscribed in contemporary hand: Mary Howarth Jubilee School at Manchester 31st March 1842. Letter accompanied by pencil manuscript note of recommendation.
