Summary
Large wooden Red Cross crate with separate lid, rope handles and textile-backed lining paper. 'GLASS' is stamped in black, as is 'GLASS / WITH CARE', and 'THE ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION' and emblem. One end features a stamped red arrow. A paper label is affixed to the crate featuring a stamped red cross and a typed list of the contents: 3 x 1/2 lbs Lysol / 4 x 100 aspirin tabs / 36 x 1 lbs w.a. wool / 2 metal hypod syringes / 2 prs s.w. artery forceps / 4 capeline bdges. / 24 x 2" O.W. Bdges. / 24 x 4" do. (24 x 3"). The lid is stamped twice with 'GLASS', and with 'BRITISH / RED CROSS / SOCIETY'. '1 Reg. 33512' (?) is handwritten in pencil. A textile-backed paper British Red Cross label is attached to the lid featuring a red cross and the St. John's Ambulance emblem. The typed label addresses the crate to 'THE MATRON / STAMFORD HOSPITAL / DUNHAM MASSEY HALL / ... / ALTRINCHAM'.
