Summary
One of a pair of oak end rails bolted together with a large bolt and nut (probably not original). Both rails have a rebated edge; (b) has a long length of canvas tacked to the rebated edge; the remaining tacks along the rebated edge of (a) suggest it would have been attached to the other end of the canvas length. The canvas itself has rope holes down each long side and is roughly finished at the loose short end, presumably where it has ripped away from end rail (a).
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
