Summary
Plain oak side rail with a rebated top edge to which is tacked a short length of canvas with rope holes along the long, loose edge (the canvas does not run the entire length of the rail); here is linen tape with a reddish stripe underneath the tacks. The opposite top edge has been nicely finished and at one end of the rail there is a cut-out slot which does not go all the way through the rail. There is also a bolt hole at each end of the rail, though the bolts are missing.
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
