Summary
Child’s oak four poster bedstead with: (a) two oak, octagonal, tapering head posts, each with square section at the point at which the end and side rails are bolted to the posts, with metal spike at the top and single bolt holes for end/side rails with one bolt at each end. The front of each post has dovetail cut-out sections into which the headboard fits and the right hand post (a.ii) has a fragment of un-dyed cotton or linen tape tacked to it; (b) two turned oak column foot posts, each with square section at the point at which the end and side rails are bolted to the posts; (b.ii) is damaged at this point; (b.i) has been broken/sawn off part way up and has 'No. 5' handwritten on in pencil; (c) two plain oak end rails with shaped underside, rebated inside edge on which is tacked a short length of canvas with rope holes (canvas on [c.i] only); (d) rectangular pine headboard made up of two pieces of wood, the upper one with curved top, and with dovetail joints on the sides to fit on to the head posts; 'No' 5' is handwritten on in pencil.
