Summary
Foot post, one of three slim, tapering, oak bed posts, each with octagonal upper section with square metal hooks at the top ([a.ii] also with top spike), and square lower section with slots for end/side rails though without bolt holes for bolting the rails to the posts. At the point at which the shape of the posts changes from octagonal to square there is a simple carved shape to separate the two. This is higher on the two head posts and lower on the foot post. Each post has tacks at various points, some of which have trapped fragments of textile underneath.
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
