Summary
Square, tapering head post (oak ?) with bolt holes to receive end/side rails with one bolt at each end, small metal castor, metal top spike and many tack marks down one of the inside edges The upper part and lower part of the post are from different pieces of wood and have been spliced together; one of a group of three wood bed posts stained to resemble mahogany, each with marks and a colour difference at the base suggesting that additional pieces of moulding (now missing) had been applied to conceal the castor.
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
