Summary
One of two round, tapering foot posts (possibly stained pine ?) with simple turned decoration just above the square bases which have bolt holes to receive end/side rails with one bolt at each end, and with pressed metal (now discoloured) hinged rosettes to conceal the holes; each with small metal castor and metal top spike; one of the posts is incised 'I' and 'II' at the point at which the end and side rails are bolted to the post, and the other post 'III' and 'IIII' similarly; from a group of three wood bed posts stained to resemble mahogany, each with marks and a colour difference at the base suggesting that additional pieces of moulding (now missing) had been applied to conceal the castor.
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
