Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Lady Henrietta Charlotte Elizabeth Wemyss-Charteris, Countess of Stamford (1773-1838), by George Engelheart (Kew 1752-Blackheath 1829), 1780's; Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young woman, turnd to the right, gazing at the spectator wearing a red dress with laced bodice, frilled white chemise and straw hat. She has grey eyes, a pale complexion with strong blue modelling between the eyes and across the bridge of the nose, long pwdered hair and is aged about twenty. Sky background. Inscribed on the rim of the locket is, 'The Honble. Henrietta Charlotte Elizabeth Charteris b. 3 Feb 1773 d. 30 Jan 1838 m. George Harry 6th Earl of Stamford and Warrington 23 Decr. 1797'.
