Summary
Photograph of an engraving of the tapestry 'Adoration of the Magi', first produced in 1890 for Oxford University's Exeter College by William Morris, an undergraduate at the college, who was first asked to produce the work in 1896. Morris asked Edward Burne-Jones, also an undergraduate at Exeter College, to design the tapestry and in 1897 Birmingham Corporation asked Burne-Jones to produce a work for their new Museum and Art Gallery, for which Burne-Jones used the same subject. William Grey, 9th Earl of Stamford, was a student at Exeter College. Photographed by Hills and Saunders, Oxford, and in a white ribbed frame and with gilt slip and cream and gilt card mount.
