Summary
Silver ewer by David Willaume II, 1742/43. The moulded circular cast foot has a section of alternating flutes and gadroons. It rises to a short stem with a cast circular knop. The helmet-shaped ewer is raised and has an applied moulded rim. There is an applied moulding approximately following the shape of the spout with centring scrolls and leaves below the lip. The lower part of the ewer has an additional horizontal applied moulding and a calyx of applied cast lobes alternately framed by reversed lambrequins. The double scrolled handle is cast and has a foliate thumbpiece. The front is engraved with the shield of arms, supporters, motto and an earl's coronet for George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington' (James Lomax and James Rothwell, 'Country House Silver from Dunham Massey', The National Trust, 2006, cat. 48, p. 108).
