Summary
Silver cup with gilt interior, with cover DUN/S/478, made by Daniel Piers, 1746/47, part of a garniture of cups with DUN/S/476 and DUN/S/477. 'The bell shaped body of each is raised and has a calyx of applied cut-card work of six formalised rings rising from the base; the low feet are cast and have gadrooned rims. The scrolled handles are cast and have leafy terminals with alternating large and small descending beads... [This] later cup has [George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington's] shield of arms, supporters, motto and coronet...' (Lomax and Rothwell, 'Country House Silver from Dunham Massey', 2006, pp.55).
Provenance
Previously on loan to the National Trust by the Rt Hon. Lord Deramore, and became the property of the National Trust after his death in 2006.
