Summary
Pair of waiters by John Liger, 1731/32. 'The shaped circular waiters are raised and have borders of alternating concave and convex scallops with moulded and curved rims. The four paw feet of each are cast. The inner borders are flat chased with strapwork incorporating masks, shells and foliate husks (worn). The centre of each is engraved with a shield of arms, supporters, motto and earl's coronet for George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington (worn)' (Lomax and Rothwell, 'Country House Silver from Dunham Massey', 2006, pp. 66).
Provenance
Previously on loan to the National Trust by the Rt Hon. Lord Deramore and became the property of the National Trust on his death in 2006. Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust for display at Dunham Massey, 2008.
