Summary
Two small silver octagonal casters, part of Lady Mary Booth's toilet service made by Magdalen Feline, 1754/55, described in the 1791 inventory as '2 [Upright Octagon Casters] of a different pattern wh folding hinges'. 'The stepped and moulded octagonal feet are cast and support the bulbous-shaped octagonal body, the lower part of which is raised. The upper part is formed from seamed sheets. The hinged ogee-shaped covers are raised, have applied rims and locating flanges, and cast octagonal baluster-shaped finials. The covers are engraved similarly to the covers of the scent flasks [DUN/S/336], but the upper parts of the bodies are engraved with scrolled and foliated cartouches centring on shells alternating with hatched amnd quilted backgrounds' (Lomax & Rothwel, 'Country House Silver from Dunham Massey', 2006, p. 141).
