Summary
Silver bell by Magdeline Feline, part of Lady Mary Booth's toilet service, 1754. 'The bell is cast in three sections: the lower section with its moulded foot and central horizontal band; the baluster-shaped handle and the double capstan-shaped finial. The top of the handle is engraved with a horizontal band and pendant flowers, and the lower section with armorials and two bands of leaves enclosing berries. The interior of the bell has a ring from which the cast clapper is suspended by a hook' (Lomax and Rothwell, 'Country House Silver from Dunham Massey', 2006, pp. 142&143).
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976). 'Christie's 20 April 1921 lot 101; bought by Crichton's for Schrager; bought privately by the 10th Earl of Stamford 9 March 1922' (Rothwell & Lomax, 'Country House Silver at Dunham Massey', 2006, p.136).

'Fully marked on the inside of the bell with date letter, leopard's head crowned, lion passant and maker's mark (Grimwade 2027), the clapper marked with lion passant only' (Lomax & Rothwell, 'Country House Silver from Dunham Massey', 2006, pp. 142).
