Watercolour on paper, Getting Under Way from St Lucia, 1780, by Robert Cleveley (Deptford 1747 - Dover 1809). Signed and dated 1789 on barrel. Gilt frame, glazed. Nameplate '25th March 1780. British Squadron consisting of 15 Sail of the Line and a 50 Gun Ship under the command of Rear Admiral Sir Hyde Parker, getting under weigh from the Island of St Lucia in the presence of a French Squadron consisting of 26 Sail of the Line under the command of the Compte de Guichen, for the Protection of a Convoy having on board 3000 English Troops which the French were endeavouring to cut off. Label on reverse, attached to frame: 'Colchester, Festival of Britain, Moot Hall Exhibition, 2-14 July 1951, No. 7'
