Summary
A marble-topped mahogany side, end or serving table, English, circa 1740. The top with moulded edge and supported on a mahogany base with friezes topped by a leaf-carved moulding, and carved with opposing runs of Vitruvian scrolls. The blocks above the paired front legs carved with shells; a pendant shell carved to a pendant tablet between each pair of front legs. All six legs moulded, topped by volutes and raised on block feet with base mouldings.
Provenance
Date of acquisition by the Hyde Parker family not recorded. Part of the Hyde Parker Collection, and by descent to Sir Richard Hyde Parker, 12th Baronet (b. 1937). Melford Hall and part of the collection were Accepted in Lieu and transferred by the Treasury to the National Trust in 1960.
