Summary
A 30-hour, long case clock by James Green, Gloucester, c 1715. The hood door glass is not original to the case. Missing, it was replaced with glass of antique pattern in 2011. Part of The Kymin collection temporarily stored at Tredegar House. A 30-hour, single-hand movement with chain winding, the bottom of each plate cut in half-moon shape, four ringed and knopped pillars, anchor escapement, steel suspension and external countwheel striking the hours on a massive bell. The dial with matted centre, silvered chapter ring with black Roman numerals and cruciform half-hour marks, crown and cherub spandrels and the maker’s name on an applied oval above VI. The case painted reddish brown, with a flat-topped, pillared hood and trunk door with lenticle. [James Green of Gloucester c 1715. See Darken & Hooper, English 30 Hour Clocks, plate 3.23]
