Summary
A black and white close up photograph of the five-masted barque "Adolf Vinnen" off the Lizard February 1923 with only her stern and bows clear of the water. All five masts are still standing with their rigging intact. Contained in a brown photograph album containing sixty three black and white photographs, nearly all labelled, of Cornish wrecks 1890-1935.
Provenance
A gift of Miss R.M. Phillips, Penzance, who also gave other nautical memorabilia to the National Trust.

Acros bottom of photograph: (in white) "Adolf Vinnen" Lizard, Feb. '23 On reverse: (handwritten in ink) 5m. barque? Adolf Vinnen (German) wrecked off Green / Lane Cove the Lizard in February 1923. Was tacking / & got becalmed. Crew had to take to rigging & were / nearly frozen. Saved by breeche's buoy. / She had 5 m. Nos 2,4,&5, (counting from bow) were rigged / fore & aft. She was made of steel & was on maiden voyage. On reverse: (stamped) POSTCARD / PHOTO BY A.H.HAWKE, HELSTON.
