Summary
Studio photograph of a woman wearing dark dress with bustle and white frilled cap tied under the chin. She is sitting on a carved chair resting her right arm on a small table holding a piece of paper in her right hand. She holds a lorgnette in her left hand which rests on her lap. Book and bowl of flowers on the table. Printed wall and window behind her, a patterned carpet on the floor with carved upholstered stool on right of photograph. Contained in a dark green leather photograph album with embossed design on front and back, containing twenty four pages, forty eight sides, with slip-in sections and gold printed borders. c. 1865
Provenance
The JR mentioned on the back of the photograph is probably Julian Pole-Carew who married Thomas James Agar-Robartes, later Lord Robartes, M.P. This album was a gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953.
