Summary
An Egyptian amulet in the shape of a scarab beetle. The base bears the image of a heron, representing a phoenix. The hieroglyphs in front of the bird invoke protection from 'Amun-Ra, lord of the Two Lands'. Amun-Ra was the chief god of the Egyptian pantheon. The 'Two Lands' are Upper and Lower Egypt (Nile Valley and Delta). Late New Kingdom or Third Intermediate Period, 13th - 9th century BC. Faded blue glazed steatite.
