Summary
A ceremonial dress with wine red velvet bodice and skirt. The neck and front of the bodice is trimmed with white fur with pleated cream inset, the sleeves of lace and spotted net, the body and sleeves decorated with gold embroidery. The skirt has three layers; the inner of calico with hem of cream satin and a front lace panel; a shorter skirt of cream satin and an over skirt of wine red velvet lined in cream satin and edged with cream and gold ribbon. Both bodice and skirt are fastened with hooks down the back.
Provenance
acquired during transfer when the house was given to the National Trust in 1953. Obviously for a ceremonial occasion, but not known to whom it belonged.
