Summary
The larger of two metal keys - Part of contents of a carved oak presentation casket, lined in blue velvet, containing a mallet, a chisel, a piece of rope and three keys, used by Viscountess Clifden for launching HMS Lion on the 6th August 1910. On the underside of the lid is an oval watercolour of the ship by Ernest Harrington - see also LAN.D.243, also in Lady Robartes's Room.
Provenance
Presented to Viscountess Clifden following the launching of the HMS Lion on the 6th August 1910 at Devonport Dockyard. Later given to the National Trust by The Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden.
