Summary
Miniature, watercolour on ivory, Le carquois epuise (The Empty Quiver) (after Pierre-Antoine Baudouin) by Louis Dupré (Versailles 1789 – Paris 1837). Mid 19th century. In a modish bedchamber, a young woman in the process of applying rouge to her cheeks, and still in her robe de chambre, looks mockingly down on an apparently exhausted young man sprawled on a sofa. Behind her, on a ledge, is the statuette of Cupid loosing his bow - but without an arrow in it - and with an empty quiver upturned beside him. Signed lower right Dupre.
