Summary
Black funeral helmet with visor and spike. Possibly seventeenth century with barred visor and gorget plates fabricated for funerary use, together with the peak. The skull might be a reused early seventeenth century close helmet, or could have been made at the same time.
Provenance
Acquired during transfer of the house to the National Trust in 1953. Old photographs show these in the Hall in the first half of the 20th century and in Lanhydrock church c.1860.
