Summary
Mahogany balusters handrail and paneling with deal treads, the latter extend beyond the string and end above a curved bracket. Each step supports three balusters alternatively fluted and spiraled which sweep around the bottom newel post in a circle. Three flights of dog legged stairs to two half landings, before reaching the first floor landing, the frieze of which is carved with a Greek key design.
Provenance
Acquired during the remodeling of Saltram House in the mid eighteenth century and by descent to Edmund Robert Parker (1877-1951), 4th Earl of Morley. Accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to NT in 1957.
