Martyrdom of St Lawrence, after Le Sueur; classical setting with the saint seated on gridiron at centre left, and looking upwards with his arms outspread; some soldiers are holding him while another is putting some coal in the fire under the gridiron; beyond at right, a Roman official observing the scene from a platform and giving orders; above, three angels bringing a wreath and a palm leaf.
