Summary
Black and white chalk and wash on paper, Henrietta Parker (d.1808) by John Downman, RA (Ruabon, North Wales 1750 – Wrexham 1824). Possibly a portrait of John Parker's (1734/5-1788) unmarried sister, Henrietta d.1808. Half length, profile to the left, in pale blue dress, her hair piled high and ornamented with ribbons, in a oval mounted and carved giltwood frame.Signed and dated 1780.
Provenance
At Saltram by 1951 and accepted by HM Treasury in lieu of full payment of Estate Duty from the Executors of Edmund Robert Parker (1877-1951), 4th Earl of Morley and transferred to NT in 1957.
