Summary
A mahogany architect's table, English, circa 1760 - 1770. Altered, the top now fixed closed (it should rise to form a slope) and with the original fittings to the drawer removed. The top with re-entrant corners above a drawer fitted with a brass handle with a large shaped backplate. The drawer pulling out with the front face of the front legs. The legs throughout are Doric columns with a plain mahogany cladding to two sides, and with pierced and shaped spandrels.
Provenance
Accepted in part payment of death duties by HM Treasury from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley (1877 - 1951) and transferred to the National Trust in 1957.
