Summary
A mahogany and mahogany-veneered chair, English, late 18th century, one of a set of six, one of which is stamped 'I.W.' or 'J.W.'. With a shaped toprail, carved with a rosette with a pierced centre and above a pierced Gothic splat, pierced with lancet arches, quatrefoils and cusps, between square-section uprights with moulded collars and topped by small ball finials. The stuff-over seat upholstered in later red velvet. On chamfered square-section legs topped by pierced shaped spandrels. The splat chamfered to its reverse.

Date of introduction to Saltram not recorded, but at Saltram by 1951 and accepted by HM Treasury in lieu of full payment of Death Duty from the Executors of Edmund Robert Parker (1877 - 1951), 4th Earl of Morley.
