Summary
Fan. Leaf of paper painted with allegorical scene in gouache. Reverse plain. Ivory sticks. Guard sticks carved, painted and inlaid with mother-of-pearl design of a figure and tree with flowers. Inner sticks plain. Repaired stick in middle. C18. Reference as a Jacobite Fan of Prince Charles Edward Stuart and the gods in the article by Mrs Helene Alexander, called 'The Prince and the Fan', Fan Association of North America Quarterly 6, no. 2 (1987): 8-19.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
