Summary
Dinner plate, silver, probably by Frederick Kandler, London circa 1751. One of seventy-two (NT 852124.1-72) of this date and maker, mostly reformed from earlier pieces. A further forty-eight (NT 852124.73-120) by Andrea Boucheron and Paolo Antonio Paroletto, Turin, circa 1756. The plate is raised and has a shallow circular well, a broad rim and a shaped and moulded cinquefoil border with applied gadrooning. Unlike many of the plates there is a centre mark only on the front, suggesting that the piece was not inverted when formed into a new piece. Heraldry: The rim of the plate is engraved with the quartered shield, supporters and motto of the 2nd Earl of Bristol in an ermine mantling and beneath an earl’s coronet.
