Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Rachel Henty, Mrs E. Gleadowe Marshall (widow of G. E. Wythes) by Frank Brooks (Salisbury 1854 - Hampshire 1937), signed and dated, lower left: 1905. A three-quarter-length, seated portrait overall tones of dark charcoal grey, lighter grey and palest lilac. Dark background with trees on right. She has short, light grey hair under a wide-brimmed hat, and wears a long dark gown over white high-necked lace bodice and matching collar. A pale lilac stole is draped over her right arm and around her back. She holds an open book on her lap. She wears a necklace of, possibly, amethyst stones with a diamond brooch pinned below.

By descent to Rear Admiral Frederick William Fane Hervey, 4th Marquess of Bristol (1863-1951), on whose death valued for probate; accepted in lieu of tax by HM Treasury, and transferred to the National Trust in 1956
