Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, William Hervey (c.1775-1862) by Richard Cosway RA (Tiverton, Devon 1742 - London 1821). c.1800. Oval. Half-length portrait of a young man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a black coat with the narrow collar of a white shirt just showing. Blue eyes, powdered hair, pale complexion. Sky background. Engraved on back of gold locket 'William Hervey, Died 1862. Richard Cosway RA'.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Lane sale, Christie's 12.12.1912, lot 104. Bought by Heigham for Ickworth.
