Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Cecil Weld-Forester, 1st Baron Forester of Willey Park (1767-1828), British (English) School, c.1790-1795. Oval. Half-length portrait of a man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a dark blue coat with black collar, white neckcloth and cravat. Brown eyes, Powdered hair in queue, florid complexion. Pale blue and grey sky background. Engraved on rim of gold case 'Cecil Weld, 1st Lord Forester, died 1828'. Cecil (1767-1828) was the son of Lieut-Col Cecil Forester, of Shrewsbury. MP for Wenlock 1790-1820. Created Baron Forester of Willey Park in 1821. He married in 1800 Lady Katherine Manners, daughter of 4th Duke of Rutland.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.. It does not appear in Farrer 1908 or Additions, so is probably a C20 acquisition.
