Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, The Hon. Thomas Hervey, MP (1699-1775), British (English) School, c.1730. Oval. Half-length portrait of a man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a blue coat and white waistcoat, both embroidered with gold. Brown eyes, powdered wig, pale complexion, aged about thirty. Grey scumbled background with curved shadow lower right. Engraved on back of gold case 'The Hon'ble Thomas Hervey'.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Lane sale, Christie's 12.12.1912, bought by Pawsey and Payne, 9 gns, for the Marchioness of Bristol.
