Summary
Painting. Landscape. By Poussin (Gaspard Dughet). (1615-75). Classical landscape. Blue sky fading to white light in far distance. Steep, wooded slope on left crowned by gothic building. Wooded valley. Two figures, one sitting on boulder, one reclining on ground in left foreground. Figure on boulder is wearing a light golden-brown tunic. The one on the ground is naked apart from a turquoise cloth draped across his lap. Trees of green, golden and brown undertones here and there, and rocks. Oil on canvas. There is a companion engraving of the mirror image of this painting (ICK/P/61 b) in the Upper East Gallery.
